Why is the BBC making this programme?

The subject of immigrants coming to the UK is one that is never out of the newspapers so the programme has an appropriate feel to it.It looks at the lives of real immigrants living and working in Britain today and shows the reality of life as an immigrant in 21st century Britain.

Why is The Open University involved in this programme?

The Open University has always been committed to delivering high quality and informative programmes as part of its remit and Meet the Immigrants is no exception.

The Open University has a long commitment to providing academic advice and support to programme makers in areas where we have particular expertise. It is particularly important that contentious debate is informed by such knowledge.

Is the BBC or OU pro-immigration?

No political stance is taken in the programme. Meet the Immigrants is a purely observational documentary that takes viewers close to the lives of immigrants in Britain today to allow them to see the reality for themselves and be better informed on the reality of the experience.

What nationalities do you cover in the series?

The series includes people from Poland, Romania and Latvia, refugees from Iraq, Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zimbabwe, and workers from the Philippines.
