Ludlow!
Hi Gwilym,
I'm one of the OU academics who worked on the series. Thanks for your post (yours is the first one!) and your interest in the Towns series and the programme on Ludlow in particular. My colleagues and I hope that you like the series - and feel that Ludlow has been well represented. You will also see on OpenLearn that there is an accompanying essay on Ludlow - and other materials that might be of some interest to you and your colleagues and friends.
The series raises many important questions about the future direction of towns across the UK (and beyond) - though the particularities of the towns that feature also come across strongly.
Please do get in touch with the OU for a copy of the brochure and hope you enjoy the programme and will want to come back on here and post your views.
Best wishes,

Ludlow: statistics
Hello Gerry,
I thought the programme on Ludlow was interesting. I grew up there and my parents still live in the town.
But one thing that surprised me was Nicholas reporting that 40% of the town's population (of 10,000) lives in the Sandpits area of town. I would have guessed the figure to be closer to 10%. So I'm curious to know how the 40% figure was arrived at. But if it is the case that 40% of the population lives in Sandpits, then why was only about 17% (10 minutes) of this sixty-minute programme given to this side of Ludlow? Shouldn't the programme makers have given 24 minutes (40%) to Sandpits?
Thanks and best wishes,
Martin

Enjoyed the show and looking forward to more, Nearing the end of DD101 so my jouney is just starting, but i love the amount of quality content the BBC and OU put out. The Council house was a programme i may have not watched a year ago but i would have missed a good programme.
Ludlow ,communities in Shropshire
I am looking forward to seeing this programme in my role as an elected unitary councillor and cabinet member for Shropshire for "flourishing Shropshire Communities" . We have actively been supporting projects like Chinnys boxing club across communities in Shropshire through our communities fund and market town regeneration programme. We feel our role is as an enabler to what is effectively big society at work alive and well.
We are currently looking at the elected member role in the goverments vision as community activists in delivering localism and it is encouraging to see form the Guardian.co.uk Data Blog on does big society exist ? we are the top unitary authority delivering it already and Ludlow is a key example of this .
Having Flourishing Shropshire Communities as a key corporate responsibility shows this is business as normal in Shrosphire . If you would like to come and see more on how we are delivering for our communities, localism, big society and the future role for elected councillors in the new world please feel free to contact me
regards
Cllr Gwilym Butler
