In this special collection of OpenLearn articles we provide a brief overview of some of the research findings related to literacy and in particular reading.
After providing some background to this subject, we discuss the tasks children face when starting to read, and then consider some of the research on children with literacy difficulties.
Lastly, we discuss an iphone/ipad/ipod app that has been developed at the Open University based on some of the research findings covered in the first sections.
