Is it only in the Sunderland/NE area that the red sauce for ice cream is called Monkey's Blood?

Is it only in the Sunderland/NE area that the red sauce for ice cream is called Monkey's Blood? I have asked friends from other areas of Britain and they don't seem to have such a distinctive and unusual name for this substance!

We used the expression in South Yorkshire in the 1950s.

im from consett, north west durham and its is too called monkeys blood, it would be interesting to hear what the red sauce is called from people from other parts of the country nad also to establish how far the name monkeys blood has travelled. please leave a reply

its called monkey blood in wigan too!!!
