I have recently become interested in learning about the history of Islam and if terrorism fits within it.
It may be that I will discover that terrorism is rejected by mainstream Islam and that religion has never been directly responsible for violence and what has happened is that religion gets co-opted under the umbrella of politics and culture, which are the real forces behind so-called “religious” violence.
I need to find unbiased books, if there are such things, that explore these things that I want to understand and where does one find them?
If necesary I would be prepared to undertake an OU course of study but I need advice.

Hi Brian,
If you contact the OU's Student Services (general-enquiries@open.ac.uk) they will be able to help you with your course choice.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes

Hello Brian, I came across this you-tube discussion by 3 Rabbi`s, In it they explain the possible origins of Islam, and it`s similaritys with Judaism. This may interest you? http://www.youtube.com/watch?vByIh7TcrZRA And to answer your question NO! Islam is against terrorism in all it`s forms. There is great conflict in the world at present "Bubbhist" Monks commiting genocide in Burma,...People claiming to be "Christian" And waging war,..etc..Religion is not the cause, it`s more of a tool which is often exploited for political gain. The quotes of Prophet muhammad do not correlate to what has been said about him, best to maintain critical thinking and not be swept up by all this like many do. Good luck in your research Brian

Islam is a very ancient religion pre-dating the quran by thousands of years. Also some Muslims may be offended using a woman whose face is covered, as this is symbolised as opressing women and very few Muslim women cover their face! It tends be an aspect of Wahhabism not Islam. Sufism in the eyes of many Islamic Scholars is to follow in the path of Muhhamad rather than "Islam" as such. Sufism however does have aspects which Islam is missing.

I Recently awakened, the Quran was central to this process. I spoke up about not oppressing people due to race/religion we are all human beings first. Then the words came into my mind (His directing of the winds between the heaven and the earth are signs for a people who use reasoning) Then thinking mathematics can put a man on the moon but breaks down at predicting the weather. I see why its a book of signs! Since that time my perception has changed, I see emptyness everywhere, for instance a royal marine had a website containing misguided anti Islam material I reached out to him with my heart and shown him all souls seek peace, within half an hour he took down the page and told me he just misses his family! The trouble is now I am awake I do not know whats real and whats not anymore? I do know their is a beyond "Life" now, though that bit is very much elevating

Don`t know what happened to the link? The title is here, "3 Jewish Rabbis admit Islam is the oldest religion" I know, the title may be a little biased, but it is you-tube ;-)
