ANA GARCIA:
Well the summer school is the place where the whole community meet up to exchange a lot of experiences, but also for those ones who want to know a little bit more about what this is about and they want to learn. And they want to find people with similar ideas. This is the place to come.
PIOTR KRAWCZYK:
And it's a networking event which is allowing for example newcomers who are joined recently the network to come and see those mature ecosystems that have flourished over the last 6-7 years.
TUIJA HIRVIKOSKI:
As the notion of living labs it's based on collaboration and co-creation so you need some type of a platform to do that.
PIOTR KRAWCZYK:
And it's an opportunity to introduce the basic concepts of open innovation, user-centred innovation which is at the very core - at the very heart of living labs.
JARMO ESKELINEN:
It's almost a week-long event. On Tuesday we did have the research community here, that's their research day. People present their papers.
ADRIAN SLATCHER:
About their experience of living labs and different methodologies and different metrics.
JARMO ESKELINEN:
And then we also had the match making session for the new living labs and also existing living labs. So that people could understand better what the others are doing. On Wednesday and Thursday we have two very packed summer school days.
ADRIAN SLATCHER:
We have a series of workshops about good practice in living labs. How open innovation and user-centred design are being used to kind of develop new products and services for citizens. And then we've also got some study visits to some community innovation projects in Manchester. Then on Friday, we have the main conference with some keynote speakers.
EDWARD ANDERSON:
So the title of this speech is our vision and a little bit of what's emerging in human smart cities.
JOAN MULVIHILL:
My little preparation today is called Colonialism, Courage, and The Trust Protocol.
JARMO ESKELINEN:
It's crucial. It's critical, that we can harness the power of the communities and the places where that's actually the only thing there is.
JOAN MULVIHILL:
That delivers all the immeasurable benefits that technology has to bring to people, but without the fear of the costs. So that we can continue to innovate for good because I do believe it is for good.
EDWARD ANDERSON:
So to me this slide is just a little thought about where is the next innovator that we've never heard of going to come up with an intervention that we've never thought of, to a problem we care deeply about.
JARMO ESKELINEN:
And then the launch of the 7th Wave so the new members who have already been here all week they're sort of officially credited.
ADRIAN SLATCHER:
Where new cities who have decided to become living labs are kind of welcomed into the movement.
PIETER BALLON:
And so it is now attracting really a cross-section of the whole living lab community, not just the guys who are just starting out but basically everybody.
BREANDAN KNOWLTON:
We're really trying to solve so many of the same things that making that meeting in person really gives us the chance to share insights and see what worked. But I think just as importantly, see what didn't work maybe.
PIETER BALLON:
It has become one of the top moments in the year where this whole community can meet.
ANA GARCIA:
A living lab in isolation is very weak, but a community of living labs, that's some strength.
PIETER BALLON:
ENoLL has really become I think the number one network for everybody who is involved in user driven and business oriented innovation.
ANA GARCIA:
The sense of community is fundamental for the living labs and ENoLL facilitates that community, it just makes things a little bit easier for the community - that's all.
