Welcome to the final week. In the following video, Lorraine draws together all that you’ve learned so far and asks how a city’s smartness can be measured and evaluated. What’s the role of learning in a smart city and what types of education initiative enable this for city leaders, businesses and citizens?

You've seen in earlier weeks how smart city projects are closely tied into innovation and enterprise. They're about finding a means to achieve a vision rather than being the vision itself. So how can their impact be measured? To tackle this projects around the world are devising indicators and metrics; ways of measuring success. Cities and communities are networking and learning from each other as they become smarter. However not everyone is benefiting from the impacts technology is making on society. So how do we make smart cities more inclusive? For an economy to grow it must be able to innovate. Smart cities need people from all walks of life to think differently about how their cities will develop and change.
Everyone needs new skills to enable them to contribute to decision-making and change in their cities. This could be anything from teaching smart city data skills to young learners to city leaders learning new skills to improve decision-making. Technology is also enabling communities to network and share forging a system of learning and exchange that stretches right around the world tackling global sustainability challenges and creating our smart cities.
