Biography

Read Benjamin Zephaniah’s biography.

Dr Benjamin Obadiah Iqbal Zephaniah ended his full time education at the age of 13. Growing up in Handsworth, by the age of 15 he already had a devoted following for his performance poetry, and since then his life has been one long tour.
During the 1980s, his voice was a familiar one wherever crowds gathered to protest against injustice.
He has published numerous poetry works - including collections for children - and has released music in a variety of styles.
