Professional biography
Formerly the Course Director of two Postgraduate Design Courses at Coventry University, Clive Hilton is now a Senior Lecturer in design in the Engineering and Innovation faculty at The Open University. He is the 24B presentation module Chair, and also an Associate Lecturer on the J presentation of U101 Design Thinking & Creativity in the 21st module. He is part of the team involved in the creation of a new BDes (Bachelor of Design) qualification. He gained his praxis-based PhD on a thesis entitled, 'An examination of the factors that affect attainment among postgraduate Chinese Product Design Student studying at Coventry University'. His other research interests centre around the internationalisation of design curricula; pragmatic design pedagogy; the processes of creativity and innovation; and international institutional collaboration across design courses. He has visited a number of universities in China and has been invited to run teaching sessions to Product Design students, deliver lectures and set collaborative online international learning (COIL) design projects. He is currently engaged in a project that might lead to module U101 being delivered in collaboration with Shanghai Open University.
