Esther MacCallum-Stewart of the University of Sussex researches the First World War and popular culture. Her work traces the representation of war through the development of cultural trends in popular literature, comedy, television and film.
Her academic weblog, Break of Day in the Trenches traces these ideas and has been the subject of considerable critical attention. She is currently writing books on television and the First World War and the cultural impact of war.
