About me

Helen Waterhouse is a Senior Lecturer and Staff Tutor in the Religious Studies Department of the Arts Faculty at The Open University.

Helen was a mature student in Bath, Somerset, who discovered the joys of Higher Education in her late thirties. She started working for the Open University as an Associate Lecturer in 1997. Her first degree was in Religion and Sociology and her interest in Buddhism started at that time. Since joining the Arts Faculty full-time in 1999, she has written teaching material about Buddhism across many modules.

Helen’s research is focussed mainly on the practice of Buddhism in the West and she has had a particular interest in the Japanese Buddhist group, Soka Gakkai.
