Biography

Read Jackie Topp’s biography.

Jackie Topp is a final year PhD student in the Faculty of Health and Social Care at The Open University. Her studies use narrative analysis to explore the experiences of disabled women in their transition through pregnancy. She has had multiple sclerosis since 1987, and became a wheelchair user and disabled parent in 1993 when her twin daughters were aged one and her son was five. After varying degrees of good and bad experiences of being a health and social care services user, Jackie wanted to learn more about the politics of disability and service user involvement. She is particularly interested in how discrimination towards disabled people is inculcated in modern society. Jackie lives in Northampton with her second husband and her three children from a previous marriage.
