Professional biography
Dr Lee Farrington-Flint is a Lecturer in Developmental Psychology at The Open University. Since 2012, I have been working in the Department of Childhood, Youth & Sport within the Faculty of Education & Language Studies as a Lecturer in Developmental Psychology contributing to the delivery and production across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules within the Faculty. My research interests focus on early cognitive development and comprise two different strands. The first strand of research into children’s cognitive-development has focused on various aspects of learning, with a particular focus on chidlren's literacy and language development and the relationship between children's reading and spelling representations. My second strand of research focuses on the role of technology within educational contexts. I have collaborated on a number of external grants from the British Educational and Communication Technology Agency (BECTA) between 2005 - 2010, which examined the role of digital technology in schools, focusing particularly on the learner- and teacher-level perspectives. My particular interests in this strand focus on the application of new digital technologies within educational settings and the influence of technology on children's literacy development and include mobile technology, social media and literacy development and impact of Web 2.0 on children's learning.
