Biography

Read Professor George Ellison’s biography.

George T H Ellison is a medical anthropologist and professor of health sciences at St George's, University of London. His research focuses on social inequalities in health and on the use of racial and ethnic categories in biomedical research. His qualifications include: a BSc(Hons) in zoology from the University of Aberdeen, a PhD in comparative physiology from the University of Pretoria, and an MSc(Med) in health promotion from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Before joining St George’s in 2004, he was assistant director of the Institute of Education’s Social Science Research Unit and was chair in public health at London South Bank University.
George has written several books including The Nature of Difference: Science, Society and Human Biology, co-edited with Alan Goodman of America's Hampshire College.
