Biography

Read Professor James Walvin’s biography.

James Walvin is professor of history at the University of York. Educated at  McMaster University and Keele, he took his DPhil at York. He has written extensively on the history of slavery and related issues.

He won the Martin Luther King Memorial Prize for his book Black and White in 1975. His current project is a history of black people in Britain.
