Professional biography
Dr Paul Walley is a Senior Lecturer in Policing at the Faculty of Business & Law. Paul joined The Open University in September 2015 as a Lecturer in Operations Management in the Faculty of Business & Law.He holds a PhD and MBA from the University of Warwick and BSc. BEng. degrees from the University of Manchester. Dr Paul Walley joined the Open University in September 2015 as a Lecturer in Operations Management in the Faculty of Business & Law. He holds a PhD and MBA from the University of Warwick and BSc. BEng. degrees from the University of Manchester. Paul has worked as a specialist in Operations Management for over 25 years, with expertise in areas such as lean thinking, quality management, capacity planning and capacity management in both manufacturing and service settings. He has taught on Masters and Undergraduate programmes at top universities, developing modules on operations management, quality and process improvement, lean management and project management. Paul is particularly interested in the transfer of contemporary operations management practices from the private sector into public sector organisations and healthcare. He is widely known for his expertise in healthcare management, publishing a number of influential reports into the design and improvement of healthcare systems, especially in emergency care. Paul is a highly respected trainer and facilitator using his skills to train clinical and managerial personnel from healthcare communities all over the world, including Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Italy and the US. He has worked on a number of highly successful collaborative system improvement programmes with organisations worldwide. Up to September 2011 Paul worked at Warwick University as an Associate Professor in Operations Management. There he was Academic Director for their Distance Learning MBA programme. Paul also has senior management experience, having worked at King Faisal Hospital in Riyadh, managing strategic projects and actively developing the hospital’s strategic plans.
