Biography

Read Richard A. Posner’s biography.

Richard A. Posner has been a Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit since 1981 and is a senior lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School. After graduating from Harvard Law School, Judge Posner clerked for Justice William J. Brennan Jr, and was assistant to Commissioner Philip Elman of the Federal Trade Commission and then to the solicitor general of the United States. He was appointed as a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and currently resides there.
Judge Posner has also edited and written law books and journals. His most recent books are Not a Suicide Pact: The Constitution in a Time of National Emergency, The Little Book of Plagiarism and Halting Steps. His current academic research concerns national security and intelligence reform, social control of technology, democratic theory, and judicial behaviour.
