Read Robin Birley’s biography.

Robin Birley has been director of excavations for The Vindolanda Trust since its foundation in 1970 and he'd excavated at the site for some years before that. He's written numerous archaeological reports and popular booklets on both Vindolanda and aspects of Roman frontier history, and is currently working on a major Vindolanda book.
