Sheena Appleby is head of Midwifery Services for Southern Derbyshire, based at the Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. During her 14 years as head, she has lead the service through many changes and has had a national influence on many midwifery issues and developments. These include aligning midwifery alongside changes in the NHS, and keeping midwives focussed on the needs of women and their families. Sheena has also been an elected staff representative to Derby Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Members Council since the establishment of the Trust in July 2004.
