Biography

Vicky Johnson is a Senior Lecturer and Staff Tutor in Geography. She has been involved in producing various geography modules, such as ‘Environment: Sharing a dynamic planet’ (DST206), ‘Environment and Society’ (DD213) and the new module Environmental Policy in an International Context (DD319). Vicky's teaching and research focuses on elements of environmental study. This includes the value of elements to the environment, such as sea water quality, and how society reacts both to the generation of these values and their uses. Vicky leads the economics line of study across different OU modules of study in relation to the environment. Recently Vicky's research has focused on Covid impacts upon the environment, particularly thinking about how recovery expenditure may, or may not, be described as the UKs Green a New Deal. Teaching Vicky's research and industry background provide the basis for her interdisciplinary teaching involvement at The Open University. She leads the economics line of study across different OU modules of study in relation to the environment. Vicky is involved in the development of teaching materials and also direct student contact, introducing students to subjects including economics, geography, environment and development. She was Chair of the module DD102: Introducing the Social Sciences and wrote elements of and remain on the module team for DST206: Environment: sharing a dynamic planet. Vicky has also written material for the modules DD213: Environment and Society and DD319: Environmental Policy in an International Context.
