There was this little boy and three girls, and the boy said to the first girl, ‘what colour knickers have you got on’? And she showed him and he said ‘you've got red knickers on so you must support Liverpool’. And he said to the other girl ‘what colour knickers have you got on?' and she had blue knickers on and he said ‘you must support Everton’. And he said to the third girl ‘what colour knickers have you got on?’ but she didn't have any knickers on so he said ‘you must support Arsenal’.

Luke is an 8 year old Liverpudlian boy. This is a delightful kid’s joke that plays on two typical boy’s interests: one that is serious, namely football, and the other, which is comic, girl’s knickers. It’s a story and puzzle joke with a three part structure, like many jokes. Luke tells it well. The art of telling such jokes is to remember the punch line and work one’s way backwards. Kids love riddle jokes and they were the most popular joke type in our survey. They are easy to remember and tell, and there is also a long traditional of riddles in the UK.
