Bang on TV

Bang Goes The Theory returns to BBC One England on March 14th at 7.30pm and BBC Two Wales at the same time. You can see the programme in Northern Ireland and Scotland later in the week. Full schedule and iPlayer links are on bbc.co.uk.

In a change to the planned programme, the Bang team explore the forces which created so much damage and destruction in Japan last week. How do earthquakes cause tsunamis - and what, if anything, can we do to protect ourselves?

The planned features on IVF, 360 degree swings and mysterious mirrors can be seen next week.

Our picture shows north-eastern Japan, as seen by NASA, on Sunday 13th March.

Richter scale error

Sion Hughes

I enjoyed the show last night apart from the dreadful error in bringing up the rather antiquated Richter scale. This has been superceded by the Moment Magnitude scale, which can appear similar, but really is something quite different. Perpetuating this outdated measurement method was a mistake.

Earthquake Predictions

Daniel MentalChaos

Comet Elenin, Earth, and the Sun were in exact alignment last year on February 27th. That is when the Chile Earthquake happened, and Earth's axis shifted. This year, the same alignment happens March 11-15, and the comet is much closer The youtube user 9Nania predicted that an earthquake would happen based on the alignment of the comet Elenin and earth. She uploaded the video on the 8th of March. You can watch the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95zMdTvoqcQ

I really think there is something really important here. We all know that the moon, and sun can cause tide changes, and maybe even plate shifts, now comets might also have a effect as well.
