Without milk, not only would we be deprived of our number one source of calcium – there would be no cream, butter, cheese, yoghurt or chocolate – not to mention a host of other goodies.

In this edition of Ever Wondered about Food chef Paul Merrett:

  • finds out how Genghis Khan fuelled his army on milk;
  • explains why milk was made free to generations of school children;
  • turns the slimming myth on its head by revealing that calcium in milk can help you lose weight as part of a calorie controlled diet; and
  • reveals why calcium is essential to keep astronauts healthy in space.

With recipes for a classic custard tart and a mouth-watering fish pie he demonstrates that milk is really tasty and versatile as well as good for you. And he rounds it all off with instructions for the perfect cappuccino.
