From Here To Modernity traces the history of a set of ideas, showing how public attitudes to modern architecture changed dramatically between 1929 and the present day. You can take this kind of inquiry further, covering history, culture and the arts, in numerous courses at the Open University.

Courses

Level 1

An Introduction to the Humanities (A103) - introduces you to all eight subjects offered by the Faculty (Art History, Literature, History, Religious Studies, Classical Studies, History of Science and Technology, Music and Philosophy).

Level 2

Art and its Histories: Institutions, Artists and Avant Gardes (A216) - which explores a range of art historical approaches applied to art and architecture from the Renaissance to the present.

Level 3

Art of the Twentieth Century (AA318) - course is designed to acquaint you with the fundamental changes that took place in the concepts and practices of art during the twentieth century. It discusses artists including Picasso, Matisse, Duchamp, Pollock and Warhol, and movements such as dada, surrealism, pop art, minimal art, conceptual art and the ‘postmodernism‘ of the late twentieth century.
