Media debate over climate change has focused on the validity of climate science data, the high level political failure to reach agreements or the technological and social solutions to help us mitigate and adapt to global warming. The talk is of renewable power, government subsidies, technological advancements and personal sacrifices. But progress has been painfully slow. What’s stopping us?
This is the question explored by the World Service in five programmes across a single week. Leading experts and grassroots activists ask 'Why we are not making progress on action at a pace that matches the challenge?' What systems or beliefs might lie behind our apparent apathy? Which paths might we need to take in order to respond meaningfully to climate change?
Each of the first four programmes in the week-long journey will explore what other areas of expertise can tell us about human behaviour. The fifth programme will debate the ideas we’ve heard across the week. Join the debate at World Have Your Say on Friday.
Themes in the programmes
- The Selfish Ape (Economics)
- Lost in Translation (Culture)
- Consumption on the Couch (Psychology)
- The New Leaders (Leadership/Politics)
- What's stopping us? The Debate (Filmed at The Open University)
Share your climate story
The next ten years promise to be a critical time to understand and deal with the real impact of climate change on humanity. The Open University's Creative Climate aims to chart people's responses to environmental change over the decade, so why not join the growing body of diarists and share your own story?
