Activity 3: Search for FM replays

Time: 20 minutes

In this activity, you will have the opportunity to access the FlashMeeting server by using the ROLE widget and learn how to find and replay publicly available meetings.

At a later time you may wish to use FM yourself. Remember that you must be registered on the FM server before you can arrange meetings or share URLs of events.

FlashMeeting widget:

Step 1:

Click on the FM QuickStart Guide within the ROLE FM widget. The QuickStart Guide will open in a separate window. Read the contents carefully noting that you can sometimes join meetings as a guest but will only have access to reduced features.

Step 2:

Click on the Home page button (Top left of window) to return to the FM main page

Step 3:

The Public Replays or FM Folksonomy page shows a list of the top keywords associated with publicly available replays of FM events. The keywords are in alphabetical order and the size of the keyword reflects its popularity.

Click on Public replays then choose a keyword from the Folksonomy list to access the associated replays to that term.

This will give you the opportunity to see how FM works, how other people are using FM as well as watching a variety of previously recorded meetings.

Step 4:

Scroll down to the bottom of the Public Replays page and click on one of the maps to see the locations of people using and replaying FM events. The map will display in a separate window.

Step 5:

Return to the Public Replays window and click on Replay all Public Meetings. Note the wide variety of people, organisations and languages that have been used. Remember that these are only a selection of those using FM as a collaborative learning and communication tool. There are many hundreds more FM events taking place that have not been made publicly available.
