Section 5.4: Into Space!

Space

In order to get satellite observatories and Solar System probes into space, it is necessary to launch them from the Earth. Usually this is achieved using some sort of rocket. The first part of this section looks at the technology of rocket launchers. Once in space, the motion of satellites and space probes is governed by orbital dynamics. The second part of this section looks at the physics of orbits.
