4.4 The recipe’s third step
Coming back to the recipe, you are now going to look at the third step.
Repeat: Proceed with the next level. Now, repeat the procedure in the second step for the next level by searching for statements that oppose or support the statements you identified at the previous level. Keep adding further levels until you hit a level at which you can no longer find supporting or opposing claims for the previous level.
This completes the recipe’s three steps:
- Identify the main claim
- Find supporting and opposing claims (for the claims at the previous level)
- Repeat step (2) until all claims in the text have been covered.
You will be putting the recipe for going from words to maps into practice in the next session. For your convenience, the entire recipe has been included at the beginning of Session 7.
