Shadda الشّدّة
The sign (ـــّــ) is called ‘shadda’. It is used to indicate doubling of consonant. In the following table you will see words contain ‘shadda’ in column A and see how is it pronounced in column B. Listen carefully and repeat what you hear.

The sign ( آ ) is called ‘madda’. It comes only above the letter ( ا ) to be pronounced as (ā).
