In cross-curricular projects, you learn about a child's interests and about a child's strengths. So if you link all of your topics together, a child who may normally withdraw from, say, maths or English because they don't feel confident or they don't feel that that's their strength, if you link a topic together, they may be a little bit more vocal. They may take on more of an active role. You may see children taking on different roles, such as observer or scribe or reporter. And it just allows you to sit back, take a little look. Find out what makes a child tick. What's their interest? What is their strength? And then that feeds into that planning and assessment process as well.
