2.9 End of section exercise

Portfolio exercise

After reading Section 2 you could conduct the following exercises as part of your evidence of achievement. You may like to discuss this activity with your supervisor.

  1. Write a reflective account of some of the skills you identify as important at PhD work and how proficient you feel you are at each – i.e., begin a skills audit; use this to identify training needs.

  2. Draw up research plans for the following:

    • (a) an overview of three years of study;

    • (b) a detailed plan for a particular period of approximately three months.

  3. Describe an example of a research-related meeting: preparation, agenda, and summary. This could be a supervisory meeting, one with industrial partners or a group meeting.
