Long description
This chart shows the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) scoring system, which advocates the standardising of assessment and response to acute illness. This is a table with a number of physiological parameters on each row (e.g. respiration rate, systolic blood pressure, temperature), with a spectrum of results listed for each measurement. These parameters are scored along the top of the table – there is a middle baseline score of 0, and 1 to 3 then running in both directions, so that high or low parameters can be scored according to severity. The numbers are highlighted as they increase in severity, with 1 being yellow, 2 being orange and 3 being red.
