Long description
This figure compares the same search results (for ‘covid 19’) using two different search engines, Google and Bing. The results differ in several respects. Bing returns 220 million results, while Google returns over 5 billion. Google groups together several news stories at the top of the results, while Bing displays one more prominently, with others beneath. Google then displays some recent covid statistics, along with a map of recent case density in the searcher’s local area. Bing features a variety of clickable related topics (statistics, prevention, symptoms, treatment, more info) at the very top to help the searcher find exactly what they’re looking for. Google has a similar feature down the left hand side of the results.
