We need to establish a conflict of interest policy at the international level with COP. It does not make sense that the very people who have caused the climate crisis, i.e. the fossil fuel companies, are also then sponsoring the COPs, are then editing the legislation that comes out of these conferences, to then say that they are solving the climate crisis.
Most people don’t realise this, but Paris Climate Agreement, which is supposed to be one of the most progressive agreements, which has some binding aspects, does not even have the words oil or gas in any of the thousands of pages. And that is directly due to the lobbying of the fossil fuel industry and the governments who allow that lobbying. So we need a conflict of interest policy at the minimum. But also, we need loss and damage finance for communities that have been affected by natural disasters and we need transparency.
