Parents also play a really important role in helping children to interpret their experience. So we know that competitions can be challenging for children, that they're very emotional, and the way that parents respond to their children, the comments they make, will help shape their thinking around how that competition went.
And we also know that parents are really important role models. So when parents are on the sidelines, when they're looking happy and enjoying it, and cheering their children on, we know that that behaviour will get seen by their children and help shape what children do. And similarly, when parents are engaging in sport themselves and enjoying that experience, we know that will help children to enjoy as well.
