Introduction
In this session, you’ll learn about how citizens have mobilised against nuclear weapons since 1945.
First, you’ll see how anti-nuclear activism developed in the years following the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Next, you’ll explore one of the most intense periods of anti-nuclear activism in the UK and elsewhere in Europe in the early 1980s. Then you’ll learn more about nuclear colonialism and how in many parts of the world, such as Polynesia, opposition to nuclear weapons has been closely related to calls for greater national independence.
