Long description

This modern painting is divided into three panels. Above the three panels yellow handwritten text reads ‘JOVE MAKES HERCULES A GOD’. In the first panel a man stands naked, with his back to the viewer, resting on a club. He is standing on a green cliff and there is a dark blue background. A small cherub-like figure hangs upside down over his head blowing a trumpet. In the second panel there is a green winged chariot and two similar small cherub-like figures against a dark blue background. In the third panel an older male figure with a white beard in a purple robe sits on a chair at the top of the panel. The male figure from the first panel is standing upright on the winged chariot from the second panel with his head raised towards the older figure, who stretches out his right hand to-wards the younger figure’s head. A small cherub is at the bottom of the panel and there is a dark blue background. There is a handwritten line of text running at the bottom of the panels that reads: ‘Hercules steps from his Funeral Pyre cleansed of Mortality’ then after a small gap ‘Jove’s winged car carries Hercules to Immortality’.
