Long description

Left: This is part of a metope from the Parthenon Sculptures, and shows a figure with the body of a horse and the head of a man. One of his arms is missing, but the other arm is holding the neck of the man on his left who he is fighting. Middle: Against an orange background, two black figures are fighting each other. The one on the left is human and is pointing a sword towards the one on the right. This one has a recognisably human body, but his head is that of a bull with horns. He is crouching low to the ground and clearly struggling against his opponent, though his arm is raised in an attempt to fight back. Right: This image is another detail from a vase painting, this time with orange figures on a black background. At the centre of the image is a ship, with a man bound to the mast in the middle so that he cannot move and the sail above him. There are four other figures rowing the boat and one standing in front of the rowers directing them. Above the boat a figure with a woman’s head and the body of a bird swoops towards the man who is tied to a mast. Two further figures with the bodies of large birds and the heads of women are on the right and left corner of the image.
