Introduction

After reviewing the Subject + Verb + Object pattern, this session introduces a second pattern: Subject + Verb + Complement. This pattern lies behind sentences such as:

• The grass is green.
• Socrates is a philosopher.
• The book is on the table.

You will also be introduced to one of the most useful and important of Greek verbs, εἰμί, ‘I am’.

Finally, you will conclude your study of Greek writing by examining how the variety of scripts and letter forms across the Greek world were eventually standardised into the form recognisable today.
