6.2.3 Portraying your character

Experiment with different ways of portraying your character, in line with the suggestions made by Novakovich.
Activity 6.2 Experimenting with character portrayals
Writing in the third person (using ‘he’ or ‘she’), try each of the four different ways outlined below, either in one or two continuous pages, or in four separate paragraphs:
- Make a summary of what the character is like.
- Finally, show them through a speech in a scene.
- Show them through appearance.
- Show them through a habitual or repeated action.
Start writing this character, in your notebook or on your computer.
Even if you used the methods in separate paragraphs, reflect on what you have written to see if there is any combination of techniques at work in any of the paragraphs.
