We were demonstrating to open restaurants and so on. And they were restaurants that I can't afford to go to, [LAUGHS] so we need to work out economics, as well as integration.

What is the point of being able to sit at a lunch counter?

WORNIE REED

If you can't pay for the sandwich.

SANJEEV BHASKAR

Right, [CHUCKLES]

WORNIE REED

It was wider than just advocating for African-Americans, it was clearly for all poor people.

SANJEEV BHASKAR

Would you describe him as radical?

WORNIE REED

Yes.

SANJEEV BHASKAR

How would you define his radicalism?

WORNIE REED

Well, because he wanted to change current situations, he was talking about a restructuring of society. That's radical.
