This is a colour photograph of the Al-Askari Mosque, taken in 2017. In front of the mosque there is a large gathering of people. The mosque’s two minarets are covered in scaffolding. Behind them the mosque’s large and shiny golden dome has been repaired. The building is draped with black banners decorated with white text in Arabic.
