Many parents who have taken time off work while their children are small are worried that when they go back to work their whole world will change, often for the worse. This guidance contains help and advice for anyone who is returning to work after having a family.
Confidential advice is also available through a personal interview.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PREPARE YOURSELF TO GO BACK TO WORK?
There are a number of courses available in local further education colleges in your area where you can either learn new things or brush up on the talents you already have. Getting qualifications in computing is particularly useful and there are a number of other courses specifically designed for the adult returner.
DOES YOUR CONFIDENCE NEED A BOOST?
Most people who have been away from paid work for a while lack self-confidence. Try going back to education or other training and you will find that meeting people will help you believe in yourself again.
WHAT TYPE OF WORK? WHAT TYPE OF JOB?
You may find that voluntary work is what you want at first, or you may wish to go straight back to paid work.
Many jobs can be done on a part-time basis and job sharing may be a possibility.
You will need to think about the sort of work you can do and how to fit it in with your other responsibilities.
