Interpreting may be used in any situation where people who do not speak each other’s language need to communicate with each other. Such situations are a common occurrence in a variety of social contexts. Some of these contexts involve very specific communication needs and constraints, therefore a variety of specialist areas have emerged in the interpreting profession.
