The image is a line graph showing the movement in the FTSE-100 share index from its inception in 1984 to 2022. Over this period time the index has risen markedly from 1000 to close to 7500. However the index has fallen on many occasions during this time period with particularly sharp falls in 1987, in the early 2000s, in the late 2000s (as a result of the global banking crisis) and in 2020 (as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic).
