This figure shows the organisational structure of the United Nations. This is a complex diagram, but essentially consists of the main parts of the UN comprising:

  • General Assembly
  • Security Council
  • Economic and Social Council
  • Secretariat
  • International Court of Justice
  • Trusteeship Council

These are arranged vertically on the left of the diagram.

The different bodies, departments and sections of the first four of these are then shown on the right of the diagram in colour coded sections, linked by an arrow. The detail is not important here. The key element of this diagram is that the UN is content to describe itself as a system and this figure is an attempt to show the UN organisation as a system.
