Figure 45 is a colour drawing of the central transept of the Crystal Palace. It looks like there is a three storey building on either side of the transept. The 28ft high Crystal Fountain is seen in the centre of the picture with a full-sized tree behind it. The people are tiny in comparison to the structure. The basic structure of the building is visible. There are many vertical columns with braced frame structures between them to support the floors and roof. The domed roof structure consists of a series of semicircular beams connected by longitudinal struts. The resulting rectangular structures are braced with diagonal ties.
