Figure 95 is a schematic cross section of a sea. The sea bed is drawn as being concave, and dry land is shown at either end. The sea, labelled 'sea water', is monochrome blue and the horizontal top surface is labelled 'old level'. A horizontal line, labelled 'new level', is drawn about 1 millimetre above the old level. The gap between the old level and the new level is described as 'rise in level through expansion (exaggerated)'.
