Figure 18 shows a photograph of the Millau Viaduct. The viaduct is a huge road bridge crossing the River Tam valley in France. It is 2,460 metres long (1.5 miles) and the surface of the road is 270 metres above the river in the valley below it. For many the viaduct looks beautiful with its slender supporting masts that support the road using cables.
