This figure is a line graph with yearly data points. The horizontal axis is labelled year and is numbered from 1999 to 2013 at 2-year intervals, with a tick mark for each year. The vertical axis is labelled infant mortality rate per 1000 live births and is marked from zero to 100 at intervals of 10 units. All four plots show a gradual decline in infant mortality rate over the 14-year period of measurement. Rates were highest for Africa, lowest for Europe and intermediate for South-East Asia. In Africa, the decline was from 100 to 60 deaths per 1000 live births, in South-East Asia, from 65 to 38, and in Europe, from 20 to 10. The world average infant mortality fell from 55 to 35 per 1000 live births.
